For a team playing in its first district championship, the Olentangy Orange High School boys soccer team looked like veterans.

The Pioneers shut down Westerville North's offense and scored four second-half goals to coast a 5-0 victory in a Division I district final Saturday at Upper Arlington.

"This is one of the biggest games we've played in our lives," said junior Walter Ford, who scored two goals to lead the two-old school to its first district title of any kind. "Words can't explain how I feel right now."

"It's just awesome," coach Scott Bryant said. "The guys worked so hard to make it here. I couldn't be more proud of these guys."

The Pioneers improved to 15-1-1 overall, and the Warriors finished 7-9-2.

Orange will face either Dublin Jerome in a regional semifinal 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Senior forward Aaron Horton scored off a Ryan Young cross to give Orange a 1-0 lead with 18 minutes, 26 seconds gone the first half.

"That just set it off," Ford said. "We just seemed to play better after we got the first goal. We got more opportunities and our defense really stepped up."

Ford scored off a Colton Bloecher assist with 27:31 remaining in the second half, and Bloecher then added another with 9:20 remaining. Ford's final goal came with 4:51 left in the game.

Orange, which has won its last 12 games, recorded its 11th shutout of the season.

"Orange was able to absolutely dictate play," said North coach Jesse Rose, whose team came into the game having won their last four games by a combined 13-2 score. "They're a very skilled team with very technical players."
