Incumbents retain school board seats

Gwen Callender, Stu Harris and Lynn May retained their seats on the Dublin board of education in Tuesday's election. According to unofficial results from the Franklin County Board of Elections, Harris had the most votes with 29 percent (6,883 votes). Callender followed with 27 percent (6,568 votes) and May took 27 percent (6,389 votes). Aaron Moore trailed with 18 percent (4,270 votes).

In Delaware County, with all eight precincts reporting, unofficial results had Harris leading with 28 percent of the vote (1,073 votes). Callender followed with 1,022 votes (27 percent) and May had 1,020 votes (27 percent).

Moore trailed with 18 percent of the vote, or 675.

According to unofficial results from Union County, Harris led with 363 votes (27 percent), followed by Callender and May with 352 votes apiece (26 percent). Moore had 264 votes (20 percent).

Callender, Harris and May will be serving second terms on the school board. Moore, a 20-year-old Jerome High School graduate, was taking his first shot at a board seat.

Harris said he is happy to serve the district for another four years.

"I'm looking forward to serving another four years with (Superintendent David Axner) and the fine teachers and administration, and am really looking forward to serving with the other school board members," he said.

Callender, the current school board president, said she was looking forward to four more years on the school board.

"I'd like to thank everybody for their support and I'm excited to serve on the board for another four years," she said. "I think the Dublin school district is in a great place right now."

May echoed Callender's sentiments.

"I am very humbly honored and proud to continue to do the work in the Dublin school district that I've done in these past four years," she said.

Harris could not be reached for comment by press time.

Elsewhere in Dublin, city council members Cathy Boring, Tim Lecklider, John Reiner and Amy Salay retained their seats for four more years in unopposed races.

In Washington Township, incumbents Denise Frantz King and Charles Kranstuber retained their seats as trustees in unopposed races.

In the contested race for two Concord Township trustee seats, the winners were incumbent Joe Garrett with 724 votes, or 27 percent, and Bart Johnson with won 666 votes, or 25 percent, according to unofficial results from Delaware County. Johnson and Garrett defeated challengers Thomas Lasher, Todd Poole and David Zorn.
