Parks & rec slates events  

The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department is offering two youth classes catered to busy parents who need a few hours of alone time to prepare for the holidays.  

Children will enjoy several hours of engaging activities with trained childcare professionals. Pre-registration is required for all classes.  

Parents of children ages 5 to 10 who want to take advantage of Black Friday sales can drop off their children from 4 to 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27, for "Black Friday Without the Kids." The cost is $12 for residents and $14 for non-residents.  

Breakfast, snack items and drinks will be provided. Children may attend in their pajamas and may bring a sleeping bag.  

"Christmas Shopping Without the Kids" will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19. Children ages 5 to 10 can enjoy holiday-themed games, activities and art projects, while parents finish up shopping, decorating or wrapping. The cost is $14 for residents and $16 for non-residents.

Christmas parade is Dec. 4  

The Grove City Community Festival Board has announced the 2009 Christmas parade will be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4.  

The parade will start at Park Street Intermediate School, head south on Broadway from Columbus Street and return to the school on Park Street.  

This year's parade will begin a holiday celebration including the annual tree lighting and the Mistletoe market to be held on Friday night and Saturday.

Santa letters accepted  

The children of Grove City will be able to mail a letter to Santa Claus from Monday, Nov. 23, through Friday, Dec. 4.  

Santa's mailbox will be in front of the Grove City Library, 3360 Park St., for children to drop off wish lists. Parents should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with every letter to ensure a response from Santa. Call (614) 277-3050.  

 

Chorus to perform  

The Grove City Chamber Singers will begin their 21st season as they present their fall concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Grove City United Methodist Church, 2684 Columbus St.  

The concert, "Let Joyful Songs Resound," will include a mix of folk songs, spirituals, classical pieces and holiday tunes.  

Registration for Grove City's youth basketball league is under way, and will remain open through Monday, Nov. 30.  

Students in grades one to 12 are invited to sign up. Volunteer coaches also are needed.  

Registration must be completed in person at City Hall, 4035 Broadway, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Offices will be open for evening registration until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24. For more information, call (614) 277-3050.
